Strengthening Transatlantic Ties: Reflections from Three Remarkable Events in Munich

This July, I had the privilege of attending three exceptional events in Munich - each one underscoring the strength of the German-American partnership and its importance for the future of business, innovation, and collaboration.

For me personally, these gatherings were not only inspiring but also directly relevant to the mission of Expert Connections, where we help international companies, particularly German manufacturers, establish and grow their operations in the United States.

1️⃣ Reception at the Official Residence of the U.S. Consul General

The week began with an elegant reception hosted by Dr. James N. Miller, Consul General of the United States of America. Held at the official residence, the evening served both as the kickoff for the German-American Business Forum 2025 and as a celebration of steadfast U.S.-German economic ties.

Being in that environment was a vivid reminder that transatlantic business is built not just on contracts and strategies, but on trust, diplomacy, and personal relationships. These are also the same principles we prioritize at Expert Connections when advising clients entering the U.S. market.

2️⃣ 10th German-American Business Forum (DAWT)

The following day, I joined more than 350 participants at the 10th German-American Business Forum in Munich. The forum brought together decision-makers, industry leaders, and policymakers for a full day of dialogue on how companies can succeed across the Atlantic.

Topics ranged from navigating tariff challenges to accelerating digitalization and strengthening supply chains.

But what stood out most was the spirit of collaboration.

The conversations highlighted the importance of speed, cultural understanding, and the right local talent—all critical for success in the U.S. market.

At Expert Connections, this resonates deeply. Our work often begins with helping international companies identify leadership that not only understands American business expectations but also appreciates the German way of operating.

That bridge - between two cultures and two business environments - is where success stories are made.

3️⃣ Celebrating 50 Years of South Carolina’s Partnerships with Europe

Closing out this special trip was an exclusive celebration of 50 years of South Carolina’s partnerships with Europe, hosted at the Dachgarten Restaurant of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. Governor Henry McMaster, Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey, Senate President Thomas Alexander, and Speaker of the House Murrell Smith joined European partners to reflect on a half-century of progress and collaboration.

For me, this was especially meaningful.

South Carolina has become a hub for international companies - particularly in automotive and advanced manufacturing - and much of that success is rooted in long-standing partnerships like the one we celebrated that evening.

As a South Carolina-based recruiting firm with strong German roots, Expert Connections is proud to contribute to that ecosystem by ensuring companies have the leadership and skilled professionals they need to thrive.

Key Takeaway

Experiencing these three events in just two days left me both motivated and energized. The central message came through strongly:

Partnerships matter.

Whether through policy, business, or personal connections, the transatlantic relationship continues to open doors for innovation, investment, and shared growth.

At Expert Connections, we see ourselves as part of this bigger picture—helping businesses move smoothly between continents by connecting them with the right people. The conversations I had in Munich confirmed once again how crucial it is to bring cultural understanding, speed in hiring, and trust into every expansion effort.

I left Munich inspired by the people I met, grateful for the relationships built, and excited for the role we play in supporting cross-continental growth.
